I’m a huge fan of these public speaking & (verbal) communication resources:
For formal talks:
- Vinh Giang’s YouTube channel — I think his YouTube videos and even shorts are the most actionable advice on public speaking that I’ve found to date. (Note: I’ve never done his “STAGE Academy” official training so I can’t speak to if the content is different or more impactful)
- AonaTalks YouTube channel — Excellent resource for learning about user experience research (UXR) but also how to frame ideas in presentations.
- Patrick Winston’s MIT “How to Speak” talk — Classic heuristic rules on communication skills in giving a talk. Was previously an annual talk by Winston every January at MIT.
For work conversations: (because any work conversation in a video call with 2+ people is public speaking to me)
- “You’re Not Listening: What You’re Missing and Why It Matters” (book) by Kate Murphy — Half of communication is listening. This was a great read to formalize how I think about being agile in communication.
- “Strong Ground: The Lessons of Daring Leadership, the Tenacity of Paradox, and the Wisdom of the Human Spirit” (book) by Brené Brown — Yup, I’m guilty of reading organizational psychology books. This book has helped me with thinking about how to engage in hard work conversations, such as when there are conflicts of team or project priorities, low resources, or tight timelines.
- “Hidden Brain: Why Conversations Go Wrong” (podcast) — About different conversational styles.

I’ll keep adding to this list as I discover more!
